2025 CSA Newsletter (Tuesday Edition) Week 10!

The days are getting shorter, the nights are cooling off faster and school is starting soon. Those are all indications that the sun is setting on summer. That also means this is week #10 for our Summer CSA Program. It sure has been a great summer and the interns along with our family have enjoyed filling bags with produce for you each week. We hope you ate well, tasted something new and shared the abundance with your family and friends too!

We are in full harvest mode these days. Onions have almost all been harvested and hung up to dry. Potatoes are being harvested every day. We’ve sheared the tomato plants and now are plucking ripe tomatoes daily. It’s a all hands-on deck moment for the farm these days.

We are also trying to prep fields for the winter by cleaning them up and getting a cover crop planted so it has time to grow still this season. The cover crop serves two purposes: it is great feed for the animals in the winter when we let them into the field and then it also adds extra nutrients to the the soils. We started this last year and saw such an improvement in the health of the soil.

If you signed up for our Fall Share Program, you will be getting an email with details in the next week since it starts on Tuesday, September 9th. We do have a few spots left so if you didn’t sign up and are interested, please let us know asap!

And don’t forget about our annual Pumpkin Festival the month of October! We are open 7 days a week and folks can wander the farm, pick a pumpkin from the patch and enjoy the beauty of fall on the farm! During weekends we will have live music, food trucks, fresh pressed apple cider and lots more! And you have to come see our super cool gourd tunnel lighted up! It’s a fun time to come to the farm!

If you are thinking ahead to next year’s CSA Program here’s the scuttle on that….we will notify you, as current members, first and you will have the chance to renew your CSA membership before we open it up our waitlist. So, be on the watch in March for the renewal email!

We are so grateful for your participation in our Summer CSA program. Your support makes a difference to our family and to our farm. The interns know you by name from writing it on the tags each week and they feel like they know you! We truly have enjoyed preparing the bags for you every week. It’s fun to walk through the fields and the walk-in cooler every Tuesday morning to determine what’s ready to be harvested or what has been harvest that is ready to go in the bags. So, from all of us at Turner Farms: THANK YOU!!

What’s in your bag this week:

~Patty Pan Squash: Let us know if you’ve come up with any creative and innovated new way to cook this squash! Always looking for new ideas!

~Cherry tomatoes: so yummy in any dish!

~Onions: For your last pick-up, you are getting a red, walla walla and a yellow storage onion. You don’t need to use them right away…onions are storage crops. So tuck them in a basket on your counter and use at your leisure!

~Zucchini: We are trying this new recipe this week with our zucchini: Zucchini & Feta Quiche

~Regular cucumbers and lemon cucumber: enjoy the fresh taste of summer one last time!

~Donut peaches: Some of our favorite from our friends’ orchard in Colbert, WA.

~Sweet Corn: We are still harvesting sweet corn! Amazing!

~Potatoes: Just like the onions, they are can be held in a cupboard or in your garage through the winter. Use a little at a time if you want…no rush to use them up right away!

~Red Cabbage: Shred this puppy up and put it in a ziploc bag into your refridge. It will last for a super long time!

~Broccoli: The broccoli plants are on the rebound after the hot temps of summer, once the nights start cooling down, they start kicking into gear again!

~Apples: Some early apples! The real signal that fall is approaching!

Thank you again for your commitment to local agriculture and to our family farm!

Eat Well. Be Well!
