2025 CSA Newsletter (Tuesday Edition) Week 6
/As July winds down, the gardens are just revving up. It seems like everything is at full tilt. We just saw our first pumpkin…still green but full size. It definitely is taking our whole team to stay on top of harvesting.
The intern team took a break from the harvest this week and spent a day making jam. It’s so important for them to see the full cycle of crops. They have been busting tail for 3 weeks picking raspberries so it was so fun for them to make raspberry jam with the berries they had harvested. Gives them a better understanding of the farm business and also an appreciation of their food. The jam will be for sale in the Farm Store this week! Currently, we have Raspberry, Blackberry and a Mixed Berry. More flavors will be coming out soon!
What’s in your bag this week?
~Beets: We love beets and always celebrate when they are ready! We mostly just roast our beets with olive oil and salt and pepper. But there are lots of other additional items you can add-in: goat cheese crumbles, candied walnuts, squash, fennel, etc! It’s all good! But here is a solid recipe for roasting and then you can get fancy after that: https://cookieandkate.com/perfect-roasted-beets/
~Carrots
~Lettuce & Kale Mix
~Nectarines: Our orchard friend Brandon in Eastern Washington had these and we couldn’t pass them up! Two regular nectarines and one white nectarine.
~Onions: A walla walla sweet onion (the interns discoverd this week how sweet these are! They were eating them raw and stunned at how sweet an onion could be!) and the first red onions have been harvested! We love the crispness and flavor of the red onions! Perfect for summertime dishes!
~Patty Pan Squash: The yellow spaceship shaped squash is a fun little food! We love stuffing these with italian sausage and other veggies then baking them. But here is a recipe for simple sauteed squash: https://itsavegworldafterall.com/sauteed-patty-pan-squash/
~Cucumber: A Summer staple!
~Donut Peaches: These are so unique! We saw alot of them over in Italy. But our friend Brandon has a healthy amount of donut peach trees on his farm. These are the early ones but as the season goes on, they get sweeter and sweeter. We love them!
We hope you enjoy your bag this week! Have a super last week of July!
