2025 CSA Newsletter (Tuesday Edition) Week 5
/For 28 years, food has been a huge part of our marriage! It’s no surprise that we ended up finding our passion as a couple in raising good food for our community! But…if you had told this sweet, young couple that they would end up to be farmers, they would have rolled their eyes and laughed so hard!
On July 19, 1997 (our wedding date) we had dreams of traveling, raising a sports-oriented family and growing our individual careers. While we dabbled in growing a small garden and Erin always grew flowers, we never imagined we’d own and operate one of the largest farms in Missoula.
Our kids always thank us for following the call to become farmers. It’s truly their passion and they say they can’t imagine life without farming and ranching. So, here we are 28 years after saying “I do” and we are writing a newsletter to our beloved CSA members telling them about the incredible produce we harvested for them! Isn’t life fun and so amazing when you let it unfold naturally!?
Always feeding this guy….! :-)
Our interns and sons watched the farm this weekend while Farmer Jon and I slipped away for a few days to celebrate. I love coming back and seeing what the interns did while we were gone. They take such ownership in the farm and really step up, especially when we are gone. They get creative and truly treat the farm as their own! It’s the best!
But the raspberry season is on really strong right now, so much of our time is spend harvesting raspberries! It’s definitely a labor of love! But it’s not too bad when you can eat your way through a picking session! Haha!
While we wait for a few more of the summer crops to start hitting, we are heavily harvesting all the other ones that are hitting. And now that farm camp is over, we are cleaning up from a great summer with the campers and are now starting to think about Pumpkin Fest and starting to do some planning for our October celebration! It’s just never-ending around here this time of year! So many fun things!
Okay, the interns did a great job of harvesting and putting the bags together this week! Here is a list with a picture of what you’ll find in your bags:
~Lettuce-Kale mix
~Sweet Peppers and a bag of small HOT peppers
~ Carrots
~Beets: This is the first harvest of beets!
~Cabbage: We love cabbage around here! We use it like lettuce! If you’ve been a member before then you’ve heard us talk about how we slice it thin and use it on our tacos or as a salad. It’s also fabulous sauteed in sesame oil with some hot peppers! Cabbage is so healthy and full of vitamins & minerals!
~Zucchini: Are you getting creative with zucchini yet?? LOL!
~Raspberries: Fresh picked today!
~Cherries: Our nephew and his girlfriend went up to Flathead this weekend and picked these! They brought back a combo of rainers and bings! We just can’t get enough of these cherries this year! So tasty and before we know it, Cherry season will be gone! So enjoy!
It is a Meat Share week so be sure to pick up your bag from the freezer when you stop by to get your produce!
If you haven’t checked out the farm store lately, you might want to pop in and see all that’s available. Lots of fruits and other veggies which will compliment your weekly share! It’s just such a perfect time of year for eating local and eating well!
Thank you ALL for your support! We don’t say it enough…we are only successful because of our incredible community of supporters such as yourself! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our family feels so blessed to be growing and providing food for you!
Have a wonderful week!! Oh, can you believe we are already HALF way through the CSA season! Week 5?! How did that happen!!!?
